ATEX and IECEx variants available
ATEX and IECEx are separate hazardous-area certification regimes. ip³Things offers model-specific variants for each, selected to the project and jurisdiction requirements. Certification is model and variant specific: a single physical variant should not be assumed to carry both, and the regimes are not interchangeable.

- The ip³Things family supports two distinct functions: identification and proximity/location workflows, plus temperature, humidity, movement and magnet or door-state workflows. The required function and approved configuration are selected during solution design.
- What is the difference between ATEX and IECEx variants?
- ATEX and IECEx are different hazardous-area certification regimes. ip³Things offers model-specific ATEX and IECEx variants, and the variant is selected to the project and jurisdiction requirements. Certification is model and variant specific, so one physical variant should not be assumed to carry both.
- Does ATEX or IECEx satisfy U.S. hazardous-location requirements?
- No. ATEX and IECEx do not automatically establish U.S. Class/Division or NRTL approval. Hazardous-area equipment must be selected for the specific site classification, jurisdiction and approved installation.
- Do these devices connect directly to a cellular network?
- No. They are BLE edge devices. A compatible BLE-capable ip³Things tracker or a BLE-enabled ip³Gateway carries their data into the network and platform workflow.
- Are hazardous-area sensors the same as intrinsically safe communications devices?
- No. Hazardous-area sensing and intrinsically safe communications are separate solution families with separate product configurations and certification requirements.
- Is the certified cold-chain sensor part of this family?
- No. The EN12830-certified temperature sensor variant is a separate cold-chain branch with its own certification scope. It is not a hazardous-area certified device.
- How is the right configuration selected?
- Start with the site classification, required sensing function, tracker or gateway compatibility, reporting workflow and operating environment. ip³Things validates the required product configuration during solution design.
