EN12830 certified variant

Certified Cold-Chain Monitoring

ip³Things offers an EN12830-certified BLE temperature-sensor variant for food, pharmaceutical, refrigerated logistics and other temperature-sensitive products. The sensor records temperature at the asset and reports through a compatible BLE-capable ip³Things tracker or BLE-enabled ip³Gateway into the platform and alerting workflow.

What the certified variant provides

Recorded temperature evidence at the asset.

The following capabilities apply to the EN12830-certified sensor variant only. Other ip³Sensors and BLE options in the portfolio have different functions and different certification scopes.

0.5 °C accuracy class

Across the -20 °C to +60 °C measurement range.

ISO 17025 laboratory calibration

Calibration performed in an ISO 17025-certified laboratory.

IP67 enclosure

Sealed for wash-down, chilled and frozen storage environments.

Up to 345 days of history

Internal temperature-history storage on the device.

Food-contact compliant enclosure

Food-grade enclosure for relevant food applications.

BLE edge device

Reports through a compatible ip³Things tracker or BLE-enabled ip³Gateway.

Reference architecture

From the cold space to the operating workflow.

  1. 01

    EN12830 BLE sensor

Records temperature at the monitored space.

  2. 02

    Compatible tracker or ip³Gateway

A BLE-capable ip³Things tracker for mobile assets, or a BLE-enabled ip³Gateway for fixed sites.

  3. 03

    Cellular or IP network

Carries the configured data from site or vehicle to the platform.

  4. 04

    ip³Things platform

Stores the reported temperature record for review and reporting.

  5. 05

    Alert & history workflow

Routes excursions and history requests to the responsible team.

Where certified recording matters

Food & cold storage

Chilled and frozen rooms, display and holding areas where recorded temperature evidence is expected.

Pharmaceutical & medical products

Temperature-sensitive product storage where documented recording supports quality procedures.

Refrigerated logistics

Reefer trailers, vans and transfer points monitored through a compatible mobile tracker.

Temperature-sensitive industrial goods

Coatings, adhesives, chemicals and materials with defined storage temperature windows.

Scope your certified cold-chain workflow.

Share the monitored spaces or vehicles, the temperature limits you must evidence and the reporting workflow. ip³Things will scope the certified sensor variant, the compatible host device and the alerting path.

Frequently asked questions

What does EN12830 cover?
EN12830 is a European standard for temperature recorders used in the transport, storage and distribution of temperature-sensitive goods. It addresses the performance and suitability of the recording device itself, not hazardous-area protection.
Is EN12830 the same as ATEX or IECEx certification?
No. EN12830 is a temperature-recording standard for cold-chain applications. ATEX and IECEx are hazardous-area certification regimes applied to separate model variants. Certification is model and variant specific and the regimes are not interchangeable.
What accuracy and range does the EN12830 variant support?
The EN12830 variant is a 0.5 °C accuracy class BLE temperature sensor across a -20 °C to +60 °C range, calibrated in an ISO 17025-certified laboratory, with an IP67 enclosure and internal temperature history of up to 345 days.
Does the sensor connect directly to a cellular network?
No. It is a BLE edge device. A compatible BLE-capable ip³Things tracker or a BLE-enabled ip³Gateway receives the data and carries it over the cellular or IP network into the ip³Things platform and the alerting workflow.
Can the same sensor be used in a classified hazardous area?
No. Hazardous-area use requires a separately certified ATEX or IECEx model variant selected for the site classification and jurisdiction. Do not assume one physical variant carries multiple certifications.
