Industrial IoT sensor pricing guide: what to budget per asset
Device, connectivity and platform pricing for tank, vibration, temperature, GPS and door sensors — with realistic per-asset math.
Industrial IoT sensor pricing follows a similar four-part structure to PTToC: hardware, connectivity, platform, and installation. Sensor hardware ranges more widely than radios because form factor, battery life, environmental rating and sensing modality all move the price.
Hardware ranges
- Battery-powered indoor sensors (B1/B2 temperature, humidity, door): $60–$140.
- Outdoor GPS + telemetry trackers with multi-year battery: $150–$350.
- Solar / Solar XL asset trackers for trailers and heavy equipment: $250–$500.
- 12-wire industrial telemetry nodes (tank, flow, pressure, CAN bus): $300–$700.
- Ex-rated / intrinsically-safe variants: add 30–70% to the base price.
Platform and connectivity
Sensor platform seats price by device count, typically $1–$4 per device per month including dashboarding, alerting and API access. Connectivity for low-data sensors runs $3–$8 per device per month on pooled multi-carrier plans.
Installation and lifetime
Budget 15–45 minutes of installation labor per sensor and expect a 5–10 year hardware lifetime for outdoor solar and industrial-battery models. Indoor battery sensors typically get a 3–5 year battery replacement cycle.
